Baccarat Strategy - Best Online Strategies & Ways to Win

When you think of gambling and casinos, card games are first to mind for many. There’s something majestic about sitting down at a table and moving some chips around while the dealer shuffles a deck of cards.

While a game like Poker attracts many a bettor due to its high skill factor, baccarat has long been a popular casino table game due to its overall simplicity. baccarat is one of the easiest card games to learn, making it a go-to.

With online casinos and online gambling becoming more and more popular over the years, crafting together a strong technique is crucial if you’re looking to win money playing online baccarat. Considering just how long baccarat has been around for, there’s no shortage of beginner and advanced strategies.

Baccarat Strategies for Beginners

When it comes to simple online baccarat strategies for beginners, there are two main strategies to keep in mind: betting with the banker and avoiding tie bets.

Betting With the Banker

The single most simple, basic way to play online baccarat is betting with the banker. Due to how the game’s house edges work, this is the only way to guarantee that you’re getting a mathematical advantage.

The house edge for a banker bet is 1.06%. Compare that to the house edge of a player bet (1.24%) and a tie bet (14.36%), and you are getting a slight advantage when you bet with the banker.

The slight increase in payout odds when utilizing a banker bet versus a player bet is a super simple way to increase your rate of winnings over time. If you’re a beginner player who isn’t interested in getting into the weeds of more advanced baccarat strategies, simply sticking to banker bets is best.

Avoid Tie Bets

As shown in the house edges above, tie bets are almost always a bad idea. The house edge is 14.36% -- a large increase from the banker and player bets.

Baccarat is one of the safer online casino games out there when it comes to minimizing losses. It’s one of the major reasons it is so popular. However, betting on ties is a sure-fire way to bankrupt yourself fast.

Advanced Baccarat Strategies for Experienced Players

Now that the basic betting strategies for how to play baccarat have been covered, let’s look at some of the more advanced techniques. There are five advanced baccarat strategies that are popular amongst casino goers.

The Fibonacci Strategy

One of the most famous betting strategies around the world, the Fibonacci Strategy uses a math-based betting sequence to decide what amount to bet after a loss. This sequence works by making each number the sum of the two numbers that come before it.

For example, you start with 1 and the number before 1 is 0, so the sum is 1. Since the first two numbers were both 1, the third number is 2 because 1+1=2. The fourth number is 3 since 2+1=3, and so on.

The continuous sequence looks like 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21 and so on.

The Fibonacci Strategy works as following: every time you lose a hand, you will raise the stakes by one number following the Fibonacci sequence. The logic here is that you will eventually win a bet, and the farther along in the sequence you get the bigger the payout. Winning a hand deep into the Fibonacci sequence could see you easily win back all the money you’d lost up to that point.

This strategy does require some quick math in the moment and it’s rare you get too deep into the sequence.

The Martingale Strategy

Invented in France by mathematician Paul Lierre Levy, the Martingale Strategy is simply doubling your bet each hand until you eventually win. The higher stakes will make it easier to win back lost money and hopefully turn a profit.

For example, if you place a $5 bet on the banker and it loses, the Martingale Strategy says you should bet $10 on the banker the very next hand. Lose again? Place a $20 bet on the banker. Repeat this until you win a hand.

Once you win a hand, you can go back down to your initial $5 bet and repeat the process.

The Labouchere System

Also known as the Split Martingale System due to its similarities to the Martingale System, the Labouchere System uses a pre-created sequence to determine your bet amounts each hand. At its core, you are increasing your bet amount with each hand.

The first step to this strategy is creating a sequence. We can use $5, $10, $15 as an example.

Your first bet will be the sum of the first and third numbers in the sequence -- $20 in this case. If you win the bet, continue with $20 as your bet amount. If you lose your first bet, add $20 to the end of the sequence. Your new sequence is now $5, $10, $15, $20.

This now makes your bet amount $25. If you win this bet, you can now cross off the first and last numbers in your sequence ($5 and $20). This helps keep your bankroll in check. Your new sequence in this case becomes $10 and $15, with your initial bet amount being $25.

Rinse and repeat this process.

The Paroli System

Moving on to the fourth low-risk baccarat technique for consistent winnings, the Paroli System works in the complete opposite way of the Martingale Strategy. The Paroli System is certainly an older baccarat strategy, dating all the way back to 16th century Italy.

Instead of doubling your bet when you lose like Martingale suggests, the Paroli System has you doubling your bet when you win. Once you lose a bet, you go back down to your initial starting bet amount.

If you ever reach three consecutive winning bets, go back down to your starting bet amount. This helps keep your bankroll in check.

That’s all there is to the Paroli System!

The D’Alembert System

Last but not least, the D’Alembert System is a baccarat strategy with progressive betting systems. It was designed to help the player avoid the big losses from happening at a rapid rate.

Pick a base unit to start the betting with and increase the bet by one chip every time you lose a bet. If your base unit is $10 and you lose, increase the bet amount to $11 and so on.

When you win a bet, drop your bet by one unit as well. This is to ensure that your bet amounts never get too high, with the general expectation that wins and losses level out over the course of your time at the baccarat table.

Effective Bankroll Management for Successful Baccarat Play

While these online baccarat strategies can improve your odds of winning, none of them are foolproof. As is true with any casino table game, baccarat is ultimately a game of chance.

With that in mind, it is important to practice effective bankroll management. Implementing these strategies ensures that you are playing responsibly and never lose too much money in one sitting.

  • Set Win and Loss Limits: Quit when your ahead or quit when too far behind. Setting predetermined win/loss limits before playing baccarat is a great way to ensure you don’t go overboard.
  • Avoid Going All-In: As cool as the movies make it seem, going “all-in” on any one bet is typically a bad move when it comes to Casino table games. This removes any sense of strategy from the game and puts all your success up to chance. No matter what happens, stay away from the all-in bets at the baccarat table.
  • Use a Strategy to Self-Regulate: While the main purpose of the beginner and advanced baccarat strategies is to improve your chances of winning, they also act as great regulator to ensure you aren’t betting too much.

Picking one of the listed strategies can keep your bankroll in check while playing online baccarat.
