Top 3 NBA Finals Upsets
A look at the top 3 NBA Finals upsets, ever.
2016 NBA Finals – LeBron James and Kyrie Irving defeat Golden State Warriors
The 2016 NBA Finals was the one that cemented LeBron James’ “legacy”, as he defeated the heavily favored Golden State Warriors in seven games to bring a championship to Cleveland. The Warriors were up 3-1, but the Cavaliers won three straight games including a close 93-89 victory in game 7. The Cavs were huge underdogs, even larger when the Warriors were up 3-1. Underdogs prevail sometimes, though.
2011 NBA Finals – Dallas Mavericks Ruin Miami Heat’s Plans
2011 is another NBA Finals that included LeBron James, but the James-led Heat lost in six games to Dirk Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks. This was the first season of the “new” Miami Heat after LeBron James teamed up with Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade in Miami, where they promised many championships.
2004 NBA Finals – Pistons Take Down Mighty Lakers
The 2004 Los Angeles Lakers were stacked. From Kobe Bryant to Shaquille O’Neal to an older Gary Parton and Karl Malone, the Lakers were absolutely favored to win the 2004 NBA Finals against a Pistons team led by no superstars, but a very solid core of Rip Hamilton, Chauncey Billups, Rasheed Wallace, and Ben Wallace. Somehow, the Pistons won in five games, and Karl Malone retired without a ring.
